Kathmandu, December 15, 2024 — The Himalayan International Transplant Conference 2024 successfully concluded at The Everest Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal, bringing together leading transplant specialists and healthcare professionals from Nepal, the USA, the UK, Bangladesh, and India. Held on December 14-15, the event was organized by the Transplant Community of Nepal with the theme “Promoting Organ Donation in the Developing World.”
The conference served as a platform to discuss the pressing need to increase awareness and facilitate organ donation, particularly in developing nations like Nepal. Experts highlighted the challenges in organ transplantation infrastructure and policy gaps in the region, while sharing innovative solutions and best practices from their respective countries.
Dr. Pukar Chandra Shrestha, Chairman, Organizing Committee, emphasized Nepal’s potential to become a hub for organ transplantation in South Asia. “With the right strategies and investments, we can make Nepal a center of excellence for organ transplantation and inspire neighboring countries to adopt sustainable transplant programs,” he stated.
Speakers from the USA, UK, India and Nepal discussed the role of advanced technology and training in enhancing the success rates of organ transplants. Meanwhile, participants from India and Bangladesh shared insights on building public awareness campaigns to encourage organ donation.
The conference concluded with a call for regional collaboration and a commitment to developing robust transplant facilities in Nepal. Attendees lauded the event as a vital step toward bridging gaps in organ transplantation across developing countries.
